Joe’s Movement Emporium first met Tom Koerner of Gottaswing LLC when he taught a creative dance lesson before a performance by the local Appalachian bluegrass-inspired sensation the Bumper swung into an incredible set back in October. The staff and audience enjoyed Tom so much they couldn’t wait to partner with Gottaswing for the return of Joe’s Valentine’s Day Dance.
With an extra long lesson for beginners, delicious deserts, swing music and attire encouraged, Joe’s Valentine’s Day Dance is an event for the entire community. Experienced, passionate dancers as well as beginning swingers can enjoy a romantic evening, whether single or coupled, at Prince George’s County’s oldest, independent non-profit arts center.
Tom and Debra of Gottaswing have been teaching Jitterbug and Lindy Hop since 1987. They began their career with a class one night a week in 1994; now their swing lessons are taught at eight locations, six nights a week. Gottaswing now teaches more than 500 students each week and introduces over 4,000 new dancers to the joy of swing dancing annually.
