A world of art is waiting for participants to experience the creative process from many perspectives in visual and performing arts. Participants explore the work of renowned visual artists while learning technique in painting, drawing and sculpture. Visits to local art studios introduce participants to artists in their community and create projects inspired from these interactions. The program also hosts guest performing artists in workshops and performances, including African, Theater, Hip Hop and Hoop Dance. Ages 7-13
Creative Cultures Camps
Session 1 $400 (2 weeks)
June 20 – July 1
Participants will learn the music, song and dance of several African and Latin American countries including drum techniques from West Africa. They will discover the history and culture of folk dances native to Central America, South America and Africa. Ages 5-7 | Ages 8-13
Session 2 $800 (4 weeks)
June 20 – July 15
Children will deepen knowledge of African and Latin American cultures with daily drum, dance and vocal training. History, language, and traditional games are introduce to share the cultural continuum in our community. This camp culminates in a performance for families. Ages 5-7 | Ages 8-13
Creative Robotics Camp
July 11-August 5
This summer, encourage the explorer in your child! Our creative robotics camp explores the world of arts and technology with skill building in basic robotics, technical theater operations, digital media, photography, and storytelling.This is a hands-on experience that combines science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM). Come ready to build your own robots, learn how to code, create digital media, explore storytelling, and become skilled in theater technology! Learn more. Ages 12-15
Creativity Explored $400 for 2 weeks
July 18-July 29
Young movers and art-makers learn the creative process through engaging and fun classes and workshops. Children will participate in movement, dramatic play, visual art making, music and song. A variety of movement styles from tumbling to creative movement to Capoeira will be infused in this two-week session. Ages 5-7
Dance Theater Intensive $800 for 4 weeks
July 18-August 12
Participants will be actively immersed in the theater arts through technical training in dance, vocals, and spoken word. The 4-week theater experience will culminate with a performance that includes original work by students and material created by guest artists. Ages 8-10 | Ages 11-13
The camp day begins at 9:00AM and ends at 3:00PM. The weekly rate is $200 for any of the camps. There are no discounts but limited financial aid is available until May 1. Financial Aid applications will not be accepted without 2015 TAX FORMS and proof of income.
Registration forms must be submitted with full payment or a $25 deposit per camp for each child. The deposit is non-refundable and will hold a slot until June 1.
Early drop-off (7:30AM) is available for no charge. After care requires registration at least one week in advance (exceptions may apply). The rate is $50 per week regardless of the number of days. Children who are registered for after care must be picked up by 6:00PM.
There will be no programming on the Monday, July 4.
Children will swim at P.G. Community Pool every Tuesday and Thursday from 1pm-3pm. The pool is located at 3301 Buchanan Street, Mount Rainier, MD 20712. Children under the age of 7 (unless they have passed the swim test) will swim at the wading pool.
Family and friends are invited to purchase tickets for the camps show listed below. Tickets are $5 for adults.
Exploring Cultures Performance: July 15 at 5:30pm

Children are required to have an Emergency, Health Inventory, Permission Slip and Shot Record or Immunization Exception Form.
Payment is due with the submission of camp Registration Form. If you are unable to pay the total costs at once, you may pay a non-refundable $25 deposit per child for each camp. The deposit will hold your child’s slot until June 1 unless an additional payment is made. The deposit will be applied to the total cost of camp or forfeited in the event that your child does not attend camp.
If your child will not attend camp and you would like to receive a refund, please send written notice (fax, email or U.S. Mail) by June1 (registration deadline). The Camp registration fee of $25 per camp will not be refunded and other fees may apply.
Joe’s does not process refunds after a camp session starts. If you have extenuating circumstances, please provide written notice of your decision to withdraw your child. We will evaluate each refund request on an individual basis and apply reasonable fees to cover all costs incurred.
