Joe’s Movement Emporium’s Annual Gala, the “Rhythm of the Night” features local artists, local eats, and Joe’s own programs on Saturday, March 19 from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at 3309 Bunker Hill Road, Mount Rainier, Maryland in the Gateway Arts District of Prince George’s County. The evening performances feature Orquesta La Leyenda, a 10-piece Latin dance music and jazz band made of members who live in the Gateway Arts District and hail from various countries in Latin America. Elementary aged children from Joe’s after school program, Club Joe’s, will perform modern dance and hip-hop pieces for a crowd made up of local government officials, sponsors and community members. Proceeds from the event will support Joe’s program to serve children and youth in Prince George’s County and the Greater Washington, DC region with high quality arts education and theater tech training.

A main course of Latin-inspired flavors from south of the border comes from new local restaurant, Bird Kitchen + Cocktails, Mid Atlantic Seafood and Nappa Valley Catering. Joe’s Peruvian and Nicaraguan staff members will provide chicken and rice respectively. Bite sized desserts, coffee, and a signature cocktail will round out the evening.

The evening program also includes an award ceremony hosted by Joe’s Board Member Mabinty Koroma of Multicultural Advocacy and Kommunications. Awardees list can be found by clicking here.

Joe’s arts programs and services continue to grow and expand based on need and demand. Both of its Maryland State Certified arts programs—Club Joe’s, the afterschool program, and Camp Joe’s, the summer arts-based camps—have nearly doubled in attendance in the past year. In addition, Joe’s has received requests to implement its arts education curriculum in other parts of the region. Therefore, Joe’s is working to expand its service delivery beyond its current facility, while sustaining existing programs and investing in facility upgrades and improvements. Joe’s vision is to increase and enhance the movement education experience in support of academic achievement. These opportunities for growth are possible only through the generous support of sponsors and donors and through the gala, Joe’s largest annual fundraising event.
