An intimate evening of ancient and contemporary dances of Love and Desire from cultures of the Silk Road

Silk Road Dance Company has been a part of Joe’s since the 2007 opening of the “new Joe’s” on Bunker Hill Road. Silk Road Founder & Artistic Director Laurel Gray remembered touring the abandoned direct mail facility Joe’s now calls home with Joe’s Founder & Executive Director Brooke Kidd. For nearly 10 years now, Silk Road has called Joe’s home with their weekly rehearsals, biennial festivals and treasure trove of costumes and props. Walking into the Silk Road closet or a Silk Road rehearsal is to be transported to another world. Experience a Silk Road performance is nothing short of magical.

About Laurel Victoria Gray, Founder and Artistic Director of Silk Road Dance Company

10298781_10152166613903178_7989166849361055514_nInternationally recognized dance scholar, choreographer, and performer, Laurel Victoria Gray has devoted her life to mastering dances from Silk Road cultures and beyond. She combines her degrees in  history with decades of field research and teaches dance at George Washington University and George Mason ..University. Her scholarly articles have appeared in many publications including the Oxford University Press International Encyclopedia of Dance, the World Encyclopedia of Contemporary Theater, the  Encyclopedia of Modern Asia, the Encyclopedia of Women in Islamic Culture, Facts on File, Dance Magazine, and Azerbaijan International as well as foreign dance  journals.
