Dr. Dukes to Receive Joe’s Impact Award at Annual Gala Event
Joe’s Movement Emporium is thrilled to recognize Dr. Charlene Dukes, President, Prince George’s Community College, with the Mighty Joe Impact Award at United We Move: A Joe’s Gala Event on Saturday, March 18th at 7 p.m. The Impact Award is given to an individual or organization that has made a significant impact on Joe’s efforts to achieve program goals and community transformation.
Dr. Dukes and Prince George’s Community College (PGCC) have supported the participants in Joe’s Theater Tech Program (TTP) with exceptional enrollment support and the opportunity to earn a certificate in theater tech for the international stagehand union. Seventy-five percent of TTP participants going to college will attend PGCC. This partnership further supports more young Prince Georgians entering into exciting, well-paying creative industry jobs.
“Dr. Dukes and the PGCC staff have provided the red carpet treatment to our students to fulfill their education and career goals. We value this partnership and what it means for our students to move toward economic independence,” Brooke Kidd, Executive Director, Joe’s Movement Emporium.
“At Prince George’s’ Community College, we are thrilled to partner with Joe’s Movement Emporium, an outstanding organization fully committed to expanding opportunity and engaging in significant ways with the local community,” Dr. Dukes added.
PGCC and Joe’s Theater Tech Program
Prince George’s Community College (PGCC) has always supported Joe’s Theater Tech Program (TTP) students with achieving their college goals. In 2016, this partnership was formalized, which gives TTP students enrollment support and access to scholarships and grants to pay for tuition.
The Theater Tech Program prepares under-resourced youth, ages 17-21 from Prince George’s County, with the necessary skills to secure employment and prepare for higher education with the goal of ending generational poverty.
